"It is an honor to be named to the World's Most Ethical Companies list again this year," said Don Slager, president and chief executive officer. "This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment at every level within our organization to conduct business with integrity and to foster a strong ethical culture while always choosing to do the right thing, for our customers, our people and the environment."

Every year, Ethisphere acknowledges companies that operate with the highest ethical standards. This year's 135 honorees, spanning 23 countries and 57 industries, recognize their role in society to influence and drive positive change, consider the impact of their actions on their employees, investors, customers and other key stakeholders and use their values and culture as an underpinning to the decisions they make every day.

"This award is directly linked to the efforts of our people and their determination to lead with integrity, and to do what is right when faced with everyday challenges," said Catharine Ellingsen, executive vice president, chief legal officer and chief ethics and compliance officer. "We congratulate our employees for achieving this honor."

"While the discourse around the world changed profoundly in 2017, a stronger voice emerged. Global corporations operating with a common rule of law are now society's strongest force to improve the human condition," said Ethisphere's CEO, Timothy Erblich. "This year we saw companies increasingly finding their voice. The World's Most Ethical Companies in particular continued to show exemplary leadership. I congratulate Republic Services for being recognized as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies."

Ethics & Performance
The 2018 World's Most Ethical Companies have again proven that operating with integrity leads to greater financial performance. Research finds that, when indexed, listed World's Most Ethical Companies outperformed the U.S. Large Cap Index over five years by 10.72 percent and over three years by 4.88 percent. Ethisphere refers to this as the Ethics Premium.

Methodology & Scoring
The World's Most Ethical Companies assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Quotient® (EQ) framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company's performance in an objective, consistent and standardized manner. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics. Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent). All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores, providing them with valuable insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.

Republic continues to steadily build upon its industry-leading sustainability platform while earning notable recognition for sustainability and corporate responsibility achievements, as demonstrated by being named to the Forbes America's Best Large Employers list and inclusion in both the Dow Jones Sustainability – North America and World – Indices. Republic was also awarded the Gold Class Award in the 2018 RobecoSAM's Sustainability Yearbook and earned the Carbon Disclosure Project's (CDP) Global Climate Management Level and the Supplier Climate Management Level distinctions. In addition, Glassdoor honored the Company with the Employees' Choice Award, based on anonymous and voluntary employee reviews.
