Republic Services, Inc. announced today that Mike Cordesman has been named to the position of Chief Operating Officer. In this position, Mr. Cordesman will be responsible for all of Republic's operations including hauling companies, transfer stations and landfills in 22 states. Mr. Cordesman will assume the position immediately and continue to serve as the regional vice president of the Eastern Region.

Mr. Cordesman has a long and successful career in the waste and transportation industry that began in 1965. In 1980, he focused on the waste industry and spent time working in Texas, Florida, Virginia and the Mid- Atlantic States. Mr. Cordesman has held a number of operating positions at local and regional levels including general manager, district manager and regional vice president of operations. Mr. Cordesman has worked for Waste Management, Inc. and Superior Waste Services, Inc. He joined Republic Services in June 2001 as the regional vice president of the Eastern Region in charge of operations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and parts of Ohio.
